{things i heart}

Today's {things i heart} has a shadowy and mood-filled palette. Filled with the natural lace of hair, flowers and the fretwork arches of Moorish architecture, they are a pleasant contrast to the pools of darkness captured in these images. I am all for whimsy, but I often crave an anchor and a drama to show of these delicate vignettes at their best.

{utterly pink + grey}

Here's another big post! It's dedicated to my favorite colour combination - Raspberry Pink + Grey. Yes, it really is great. The film Bright Star is one of the very best sources for this palette, and they have mixed in moody indigos and old whites to make it a truly sumptuous feast for the eyes. Another theme that helped me to edit my many many images for this file was the contrast of coarse textures layered against smooth walls and taught upholstery, another favorite! Below are two sofas - one championing grey in all its many shades, and the other PINK in it's most linen-y best. I simply can't choose which I love best...

I love the stripped window frames and honed pink render. Truly lovely.

{raspberry mornings}

It's that funny time inbetween winter and spring that presents a bit of challenge to ones wardrobe. I for myself, anyhow, that by this point I'm ready for a change from my winter usuals. The trees near where I live are bursting in pink blossoms and the skies allude to future blue skies! But a warm scarf and thick tights are still very much essential. So here are some inspirations in keeping warm but looking ahead to raspberry mornings and cerulean afternoons.

{bedroom moodboard}

Here's a bedroom moodboard I'm currently working on. Grey, cerulean and sky blue, a hint of molten gold, a bright emerald green and faded pinks. Reclaimed wood in the rough and well-trodden rugs paired with crisp sheets and fresh paintwork. Simple, uncluttered and almost androgynous in that it could be a bedroom for a guy or a gal!

{a dash of japonisme}

Japonisme galore! I love a hint, no a DASH of the Orient. The colours, the layering of patterns over more delicious prints, fruit blossoms and embroidered silks. The kimono, haori and obi are phenomenal canvases for some of the most beautiful textiles in the world, and yet still somehow conform to the petite frames of their wearers without overwhelming themI. An endless source of inspiration.

{inside outside}

When I was young(er), there was a tree I used to play in for hours at a time. The root system was a burrow of small interconnecting rooms and mossy dwellings. My friend and I made little beds out of bark with quilts of flower petals for the little family of Sylvanian rabbits we had cobbled together. Painstaking miniature creations took on life outside like they never quite seemed to indoors. When called in for dinner, who knew what went on inside that green-hued den?

I love these images because they represent the adult version! Chandeliers and sofas dragged out into a field to play. When left outside for too long, the creeping, curling tendrils of nature seek to claim them back. It's a wonderfully eccentric and aristocratic notion - the notoriously complex picnics at Glyndebourne and outdoor theatres of the grand and wealthy to name a few.

{ghosts of fabrics past}

During one of my treasure hunts I stumbled across this... traces of this antique sofa's upholstery have been bleached and stained into the plain fabric underneath. Isn't it beautiful? A ghost of another time has morphed into an eerie print, becoming an entirely new creation.
